ST. MICHAEL'S FORTRESS IN PREKO

The former medieval Benedictine monastery from the 12th century, and later a Venetian fortress used for defensive purposes, is located on a hill of the same name above the village of Preko on the island of Ugljan. Although in ruins, today it's a popular picnic spot that offers a breathtaking view of the city of Zadar, many islands of the Zadar Archipelago and Kornati National Park.

MONASTERY OF ST. PAUL AND GLAGOLITIC MUSEUM

Only 80 meters away from the village of Preko on the island of Ugljan lies the idyllic island of Galevac, covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation which conceals a valuable Franciscan monastery from the 15th century. The Franciscan Monastery of St. Paul the Hermit is also known for its Glagolitic museum, whose collection is placed and can be seen in the newly refurnished area of the old printing office. The exhibition contains old Glagolitic books and manuscripts, remains of church furniture and the valuable painting “Prayer on the Mount of Olives”, which dates from the17th/18th Century.

SAHARUN

In the northern part of Dugi otok, there is a beautiful sandy beach called Saharun, 800 meters long and surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. The sea is turquoise blue and clear and it is a real pleasure to swim or dive in it, which is why this beach attracts many boaters.

LIGHTHOUSE OF VELI RAT

The lighthouse of Veli Rat, which has been the luminous sign for sailors for over 150 years, is located near the famous Saharun beach, on the northwestern tip of Dugi otok. It is considered one of the most beautiful places in the Adriatic because it is surrounded by pine forests, beautiful bays and pebble beaches. The 40 meter high lighthouse tower offers a truly unique and unforgettable view. In its yard, there is a chapel of St. Nicholas, who is the patron saint of sailors.

LUN

Lun, a small coastal town in which nature has left traces of its generosity in a unique combination of green and blue, is situated under the centuries-old olive trees in the extreme northwest of the island of Pag. The centuries-old olive trees are a true oasis of peace and one of the most picturesque and beautiful corners of the island. This area of wild olive is unique in the Adriatic and has a high botanical value, which is why it was declared a botanical reserve in 1963, and has been protected since then.

PAG LACE MUSEUM

The lace from the island of Pag, also known as 'the white gold of the town of Pag', came from Venice to Pag during the Renaissance period. Over the centuries, thanks to skill and imagination of the embroiderers, the lace has assumed features that make it different and special. The fact that the Empress Maria Theresa had an embroiderer from the island of Pag who sewed the lace for the needs of the court of also speaks of its long tradition. The lace was also exhibited at the International Exhibition in 1939 in New York and included on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity because of its uniqueness. The Pag Lace Museum will bring to you the special world in which you will be able to admire hundreds of valuable exhibits of old and new lace, traditional costumes decorated with lace, and photographs and documentation of Pag lacemaking.

HEALING MUD OF NIN

The Nin lagoon is a magical oasis of sandy beaches that stretch around the old city with a total length of 8 km. One of the most beautiful beaches is certainly the Queen's beach (Kraljičina plaža) with a view of Velebit that will leave you breathless. The largest site of healing mud in Croatia, which has been used for therapeutic purposes for various diseases for forty years, is located next to the Queen's beach.

SALT MUSEUM IN NIN

The history of the salt pans of Nin, one of three pans in Croatia, dates back to Roman times. The salt pans still use the traditional method to produce a wide range of products, from industrial salt to consumer and therapeutic salt. In the salt pans' park you can see the remains of the ancient stone doors used for the passage of seawater to the pools. At the first museum of salt in Croatia, as part of the salt pans of Nin, you will discover the importance of salt for the human body and become familiar with tools used in the traditional manufacturing of salt. You will be able to taste salt caviar or salt flower, and get a comprehensive insight into the process of obtaining salt, which is exactly the same as in Roman times.

THE TEMPLAR FORTRESS AND “KNIGHTLY DAYS IN VRANA”

The remains of the impressive fortress Gradina "Castrum Aureanae" near the Vrana Lake testify about ancient times. In the 11th century, the Benedictine monastery was located in Vrana, which was taken over in 1136 by the Templars until the abolition of the order, and in the year 1312 it passed into the hands of the Johannites. The Mystery of the Templars has not subsided. According to legend, templar treasure: the golden chariot, which was never found, is hidden beneath the walls of Vrana. The "Knightly Days in Vrana", a historical spectacle which takes place at the last weekend in August, revives the scenes of times long gone. The Templars, Johannites, the Turkish Pashas, papal messengers, and priors of Vrana are just some of the characters from the long and complex history of Vrana. You will be able to enjoy the faithful representation of knightly combat and warfare, fencing, archery, military camp, siege devices, a medieval culinary offer and other elements of medieval life.
